Hi there!
I am embarking onto a new season of life and am starting a new way of expressing myself-blogging!
I would've never thought that I would communicate to a group through my writing, but since I was encouraged to jot down what life will be like for me while living overseas, not to mention that it will be an efficient way for me to stay in touch. Hence, here I am-giving it a try! We'll see how long this will last??!!
Hope that this will be a place for me to not just tell you about my latest, but also a place to post pics of the place, people, and of course....good eats (so that I may entice you to visit me =)!!

Here's to my first blog!!! Thank you for reading.
I titled it: "What's up with the 'bean'?
What's my hangup on 'bean'?
I have used it as part of my email for a long time; and here are some thoughts on why 'bean' is especially meaningful to me!!
1. Bean was my college nickname, my college friends all called me that and my head resident Jim can even make my name into a song based on the tune 'My Sharona'. (Jim, I need a recording of your singing to take w/ me to China).
2. Coffee bean: aaaawwww!! Fresh brewed coffee....one thing I will miss much since I anticipate that I won't get it daily while I am living in China. Where will I buy fresh ground coffee??
3. Lentil & garbanzo beans (soup, Indian food, etc...); I will miss that too since I doubt that Indian food will be readily available like here in Sunnyvale....no more delicious food from Chaat House up the street. However, I will get a chance to taste many more other beans in China, I think!?? I will see.
4. Jelly bean: not necessarily one of my favorites...but I will miss them too.
5. Red bean drink: Mmmmmm, makes yummy chinese dessert (Red bean drink & ice cream); hope to taste the real thing once again when I go visit Hong Kong in the near future, reminiscence of my childhood.
6. Beanie babies: are those made in China?? anyone want me to pick one up for them or should I start collecting them??
7. Selenebean: my email sign on for the longest time...notice how I mis-spell my name all these years on purpose?? Why? so that no one will call me se-line bean, as I've been called a few times.
8. Vanilla bean: I don't think the taste of vanilla will be the same in China...I will miss the taste of that in bake goods and in delicious Breyers ice cream.
9. String bean: that will be one of the staple veggies that I will be eating lots while living in China. One of the favorite dishes there is "Dry sauteed string beans"; I don't know if that's the case when I live in Taiyuan area, but I certainly had my stomachful of that dish when I visited in 2002 in Shengyang. mmmmm????
10. Bean's Chit Chat: well, while living here, I wanted to change my sign on to reflect more characters of professionalism and maturity, I no longer use selenebean for everything...hence, the only 'beanie' effect I am keeping is through my blog to my 'American' buddies and families...This point onward, I will be known as 'schan' in China!
Thank you for reading! Next entry will be coming to you from the good ol' land of China!
Blessings!
Selina

Hi Selina,
I am so excited for you..you are so close! Guess what? I leave for China on Sept. 12 for a short-term trip. We are going to be doing a PT camp at an orphanage and I will be helping with some OT stuff. Then I am going to go visit Elaine and Migyeong for a week and then spend another week in NW China! We will be in China at the same time. That's pretty cool. I will be thinking of you!

Hi Selina,
I have been thinking of you and counting the days for you. Also, understanding what it would be like for you these last few days. I trust and pray that our Lord will be with you each and every step. It will be an adventure for you!! I do hope to visit whenever I get a chance to go back to NW China.
Thinking of you always! ("Ak yol bolsun!" in you know what language meaning 'Have a pleasant journey!')

Oi, is this a safe place to write out every word? or do we need to use acronym? What an exciting journey you are taking. May He be your encouragement when you are down, may He be your light when things are looking dark, and may He give you joy when you are sad. You will be missed here but good thing you are leaving when tech is so good and can still see how you are aging on the screen! =)
Hi Selina!
I am excited for you. We will be praying for you in Community Group as often as possible. This has been a long-time dream for you, and I love how God develops our character while we wait n Him. I know He's done that in you.
Blessings! I hope I see you before you go.
Love,
Jennifer Martin
So excited to be traveling to China with you over the next several years. Thanks for being our hands and eyes, and for allowing us to partner with and through you. Hope we can visit at some point, and you'll always have a comfortable room and bed to stay in Baltimore.
Hi Selina,
Thank you for letting us be a part of how God is using you! This is such a great way to stay in touch!
I am praying for you. I know we are all looking forward to hearing how the Lord is growing His Kingdom through your heart, obedience and work in China....
Blessings and Joy to you!
